Achievements So Far
According to the Caro Group's carbon footprint study, impressive improvement has been made. By Year 5, the company's carbon footprint had dropped from 265,888 kg CO2e to 115,113 kg CO2e, a 41.66% reduction over the baseline year.
This advancement was fuelled by significant adjustments, such as:
A 32.95% reduction in energy consumption was achieved by switching to renewable electricity contracts and optimising energy use in their manufacturing processes.
A 91.23% reduction in travel emissions, as business travel was cut significantly by embracing virtual meetings and minimising unnecessary deliveries.
Fleet upgrades, with four diesel vehicles replaced by hybrid models, further dropped travel-related emissions.
Sustainability in Sand Casting and Gravity Die Casting
Maybrey Precision Castings, a Kent based Foundry, operations in sand casting and gravity die casting have adopted several sustainable practices:
Energy Efficiency: We have minimised energy waste by transitioning to renewable energy (with our solar panels and green energy contracts) and using LED lighting with motion sensors.
Machinery Optimization: Decommissioning fossil fuel-powered machinery and upgrading to energy-efficient equipment reduces power consumption and supports precise, environmentally conscious manufacturing.
Supply Chain Adjustments: Subcontractors must now be within a 10-mile radius, adopt carbon-neutral couriers, and combine deliveries and collections from subcontractors during the same trip, minimising journeys and reducing emissions.
A Foundry Leading the Way in Kent
The Caro Group is establishing a standard for sustainable practices. With Mabrey Precision Casting’s 100 years of experience in gravity die casting and sand casting and CaroFlow's 35 years of experience in floor and roof drainage products, the group is helping the environment.
The group's ongoing dedication to cutting emissions enhances its standing as a reliable leader in Kent's manufacturing industry.
